It’s the time of the year when the seasonal Sonoma County Farmers’ Markets start opening! Fresh produce, artisan specialties, and heirloom treasures are waiting for you to discover. You’ll even find live music at some venues that feature homegrown California talent. So, if you’re looking for the perfect place to explore the local Wine County culture and enjoy with your family and friends — this might be precisely what you’re seeking!

There are approximately 750 Certified Farmers’ Markets in California, and several of them happen to be in our backyard! We’ll focus on the ones that are an easy drive from our vacation homes in Healdsburg, Sonoma County, and Sebastopol. And, there should be no question if there are authentic and genuine products at the markets listed below. All of them are Certified Farmers’ Markets, which means vendors must produce their own products.

While they are considered an essential business during the COVID-19 pandemic, we do recommend contacting the farmers market of your choice before going to ensure it’s open.

Let’s start with what types of produce you’ll encounter at different times of the year! There is an abundance of vegetables to choose from in the spring months — like asparagus, baby artichokes, peas, lettuces, bright cauliflowers, and striped beets. After the temperatures begin to rise for our summer season, you’ll find a bounty of regional berries available at the markets. From succulent strawberries and blueberries to cherries and boysenberries! After mid-May, the fruits become the star of the show, with apricots, pears, peaches, plums, and raspberries all being in season. It’s also the time of the year for tomatoes and green beans. For a special insider tip, don’t miss Sebastopol’s popular Gravenstein apples! They usually start showing up for purchase in late July.

Calistoga Farmers’ Market

This is one of our favorite farmers’ markets in Wine Country! If you’re looking for an authentic Sonoma County experience, you’ll find it at the Calistoga Farmers’ Market. With over 35 vendors attending every week, you’ll find fresh, locally grown seasonal produce, fruits, vegetables, beautiful flowers, pre-packaged food, locally caught seafood, and many unique handmade crafts! Healdsburg Farmers’ Market

The Healdsburg Farmers’ Market is owned and operated by the farmers and vendors of the market and is one of the original 22 Certified Farmers’ Markets in California! No matter what you’re looking for, you’ll find it here! You’ll be greeted with a diverse range of fruits and vegetables along with flowers, cheeses, honey, olive oil, bread, and multiple varieties of fresh meats. That only scratches the surface; you’ll also find selections of handmade crafts and delicious cooked food for a quick bite while you’re there or to take with you!

Depending on when you’re visiting Wine Country, you may even find a season event taking place. They have annual Zucchini races, pumpkin carving contests, and cooking demonstrations. Windsor Certified Farmers’ Market

If you’re looking for an energetic and creative community market, this is the place for you! With free monthly events, chef demonstrations, food tastings, and cooking classes geared towards the kids in your group — there’s something for everyone here!

This market is also part of the Town of Windsor’s Summer Nights on the Green Concert Series! The Windsor Certified Farmers’ Market is also unique in that it features a selection of international food from local restaurants and chefs to experience while you’re enjoying the concert. And, on Sundays, you’ll find mouth-watering brunch options, tasty BBQ, and live music (TBD for the 2021 season).

Forestville Certified Farmers’ Market

Located in Forestville’s downtown park under shady Oak trees, this is the market to visit if you’re looking for an outdoor adventure with a wide variety of locally grown produce and homemade crafts! There’s even a booth dedicated to beer and wine with an extensive assortment from top-rated Sonoma County wineries and breweries.

As a delightful bonus, there are picnic tables and benches positioned throughout the park that are perfect for enjoying food and drinks from the market! And, if you’re feeling especially adventurous, the West County trailhead is only a few steps away.

Sebastopol Farmers’ Market

Farmer’s market enthusiast?! This market literally has EVERYTHING and features over 50 vendors! Yes, that’s right… over 50 of the best artisans, chefs, farmers, and beverage makers in the region participate in this market located within the Sebastopol Plaza! No matter when you visit, we’re positive there will be one thing you’ll fall in love with here.

Occidental Community Farmers’ Market

Santa Rosa Original Certified Farmers’ Market

Last but not least, The Santa Rosa Original Certified Farmers’ Market is one of the oldest and largest farmers’ markets in Sonoma County! How can you miss this? With approximately 80 different vendors, you’ll find everything from Wine Country chocolates, goat cheeses, artwork, along with seasonal produce and home goods.
