The Best Wines For Celebrating Your Vacation If You’re From Houston

As a Houstonian, you already know the struggle of finding great wine. You can only get excellent wine at white-linen French restaurants and high-end chophouses like Backstreet Café and Caracol.

And while you’ve gotten used to the beer and cocktails at local bars, along with art museums and space centers, you want something more. You want to go on a wine adventure. You want to explore and experience the exotic tastes of different wines.

That’s where Napa Valley takes center stage.

Why You Should Visit Napa Valley

Napa Valley is known for its exquisite wines and tours. There are over 400 vineyards, 95% of which are owned by families. And with 125 different restaurants and cafes that all serve wine, you know you’re in for an adventure! You can also attend a culinary class where you can learn how to make olive oil and different types of wines.

But out of all the amazing collections of wines, we’ve chosen a few that we think that Houston travelers will really love. Let’s get started:

SHAFER NAPA VALLEY MERLOT 2014

This one’s a merlot—and everyone knows just how much Texans love Merlot, right after Cabernet Sauvignon!

What we love most about this wine is that it has a soft finish and great tannins. That’s why we recommend tasting it first. It’s perfect for starting your tour and will tango with your taste buds for a short while afterward.

Merlot is also a great wine to begin with because of its berry and fruity taste, so you won’t be disappointed. Secondly, since you’re Texan and are already familiar with the taste, start with a wine that your taste buds are already used to.

Pair it with a little bit of cheese to enhance and bring out of all its flavors!

Most importantly, what makes this wine stand out is that it’s 14% Malbec and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon.

CHATEAU MONTELENA NAPA VALLEY CHARDONNAY 2015

This wine became popular in the 70s because of its richness and depth. The flavors of pineapple, baking spices, cinnamon, and nutmeg burst into your mouth after the first sip.

You can taste all the flavors in the first sip, but they keep changing after every one. We love the creaminess and vintage texture of this wine.

We all know just how much Texans love wine that has a powerful taste.

And while the texture is strong, it’s not overwhelming. The finish is a little dense, but that’s exactly what made us add this wine to our list!

CLIFF LEDE STAGS LEAP CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2014

This wine is also from the Napa Valley region, and has to be our favorite one on the list! That’s why we saved the best for last.

This one’s 9% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Malbec and 2% Merlot. It’s a Cabernet Sauvignon, and since that’s another familiar wine for your taste buds, it deserves a spot on your bucket list.

It has a powerful and rich taste. So if you prefer wines that are “smooth” and “soft” on the senses, then this one’s not for you. But if you want something unique that will tantalize your taste buds, pour yourself a glass when you’re in Napa Valley!
